"Tax-Free" Feminine Products Bill Passed in Washington State

Just recently on March 13th, 2020, Washington state legislators made tampons tax-free. I was overwhelmed and proud to hear this because I believe that tampons are essential products for women. Through this bill, Washington state women will no longer have to pay sales tax for products that are fundamental for their feminine health. Though there is hope in Washington state, there are currently still 31 states that do not exempt menstrual products from sales tax, as stated by Period Equity, an organization advocating for menstrual equity. As a woman myself, the products themselves are necessary for the majority of women and so I was shocked to learn that still some states apply a sales tax to their essential feminine products.
